Diamond Academy-23

There are a lot of exciting topics this year that will help develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world they live in.

This year in our English lessons, we will be developing writing skills through different class novels and other genres. By the end of the year, children should be able to write imaginative texts with engaging descriptions whilst also demonstrating the many skills they have learnt, such as the use of varied sentence openers, prepositions, adverbs and conjunctions.

In maths, there will be a huge focus on timetables as these can help in many different aspects of the subject. We will also be looking at developing a better understanding of place value and learning how to use written methods for more difficult calculations.

Over the year, we will be doing a range of exciting topics. We have started the year looking at urban structures and artwork in order to design and create our own pieces. We will also be working on a food unit, where we will think about food hygiene and the process of preparing and cooking foods.

Later in the year, we will start the topic of ‘Predators’. This unit allows the children to learn about different predators around the world and at the end, they will design their own ultimate predator. We will also be looking at how natural disasters can affect people’s lives in our unit of ‘Tremors’. In this unit, we will be focusing on volcanoes and earthquakes.

What their teacher says:

My class this year are enthusiastic about learning. Seeing those moments when a child understands and achieves is what makes teaching such a rewarding profession.
