Matthew Haggarty

Matthew has been teaching for 16 years, having qualified at Newcastle University as a Primary School Teacher. He has spent his career teaching in a variety of settings including both primary and secondary schools.

Ten years ago Matthew started working as Assistant SENDCo at Shotton Hall Academy, helping to establish support and provision for a variety of needs, moving on after seven years to cover the SENDCo role in three other North East Learning Trust schools. Matthew took up a new post in September 2020 as a mental health advisory and inclusion teacher working for Durham Local Authority across many schools in County Durham, supporting pupils, staff and families with a wide range of needs.

He started as a governor at Diamond Hall in October 2018 and has seen it continue to develop its position at the centre of the local community offering a first-class education for its pupils. Matthew looks forward to continuing work with the staff and pupils going forward at what has been, and no doubt will continue to be, a challenging time.
