Last week Gillian, a parliamentary officer, came into school to teach us about Parliament and how democracy works in the UK.

After a fact packed, whole school assembly, discussing how we can have our say and change things for good, Year 6 worked with Gillian in a debate workshop. The children simulated being in the House of Commons; debating topics such as 'should homework be allowed?' and 'should the voting age be lowered?'

In another workshop, the children worked on a new local campaign for change such as 'increase the number of litter bins in Sunderland' and 'make our shops healthier'.

The visit certainly left us inspired to help make the world a better place. Well done everyone involved and thank you to Gillian for coming in.
