Derwent Hill 2018

Day 1

Our Year 5 pupils have had a great first day at Derwent Hill! They have settled in brilliantly and the weather is glorious. 

One group spent the afternoon looking around the grounds and surrounding area. They improved their teamwork skills by navigating the night line whilst blindfolded. 

Another group had lots of fun on a river walk. The children jumped into a deeper section of the river from a high platform. Everyone got very wet but they all had a great time.

Day 2

On Tuesday, Year 5 had an extremely exciting and busy day!

One group started the day with orienteering in Derwent Hill's grounds followed by a long walk to Blackmoss Pot. When they arrived, they had a delicious packed lunch then took daring jumps into the picturesque pool.

Another group faced their fears and became super rock climbers before they conquered the death swing - well done!

After completing the orienteering course around the Derwent Hill grounds, group 2 then compled their gorge walking task. After tea, they then completed a short night walk to the top of Latrigg to see some of the gorgeous sights over Keswick.

Day 3

On day 3, group 1 had a very wet day. It started with a super canoeing session followed by an ice cream treat. Then, during the afternoon, they scrambled through the gorge sliding and jumping in the pools.

It was a tiring day for group 3 who had a brilliant time climbing Grisedale Pike - it was hard work but well worth the breath-taking views at the top. The expedition ended with a well deserved ice lolly at the foot of the mountain.

Group 2 had a challenging morning on the high ropes course. The group did brilliantly to challenge themselves to achieve their best. In the afternoon, they spent time on Derwent Water canoeing in groups and even managing to make time for an ice cream pit stop! 

Day 4

Day 4 has been another action-packed day for Year 5.

The children enjoyed a walk around the lake before going for a swim whilst telling their instructor about article 24 - the right to a clean and healthy environment.

Other pupils tackled the obstacle course and took a turn on the double death swing.
