We are very excited to announce that, after several years’ commitment to becoming a Rights Respecting School, we have been awarded Unicef’s Gold Award!
The Gold Rights Respecting award is the highest level of the Award granted to schools that have fully embedded the principles of the Convention into their ethos and curriculum. Diamond Hall Junior Academy is one of only 380 schools in the country to have achieved Gold and the first school in Sunderland!
The impact of all Rights Respecting activities can be seen in a recent survey, in which 99% of pupils said they feel they can influence matters locally, and 98% globally. 95% feel they can make a difference in school. This is because our children have a good knowledge of the articles in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and this knowledge empowers them to take action to make a positive change to the lives of other children.
The letter received from the Prime Minister in response to class 3CM’s 'Send my friend to school/make school safe' campaign is a prime example of our children taking action to speak out for the rights of others and making a difference in the world.
We are very proud of them!
