Last week, a group of intrepid Year 6 pupils made the short trip upriver to Lambton Estate in Chester-le-Street. The Estate, which is not currently open to the public, was once famously known as 'Lambton Lion Park', but luckily for us, there were no felines to be seen!

However, pupils did have the opportunity to see some of the current wildlife up-close including honey bees, highland cattle and racing pigeons. They also enjoyed a tour of Biddick Hall (a stately home), lunch in the walled gardens and a spooky descent into the cellars of Lambton Castle!

Year 6 pupil, Leona, commented: "Learning about the past was interesting. The estate was very luxurious and different to what we are used to!"

Year 6 pupil, Aidan, commented: "The most memorable part was the wildlife, particularly the racing pigeons. We learned about them being used in World War One to carry messages."
