Rights respecting trip to St Mary's Primary School

Six members of our Rights Respecting Steering Committee were invited to St Mary's Primary School this week to meet with pupils from other schools to discuss our rights respecting work.

The children described how our committee runs within school and shared some examples of rights respecting work they were proud of. It was a fantastic opportunity to find out how other schools are campaigning for children’s rights and to discuss new ideas (Article 12, UNCRC).

Pupils then explored St Mary’s forest school (Article 31) and were tasked with creating a rights respecting shield using natural materials.

Lily G said: “The ‘RR’ inside stands for rights respecting. We used leaves of different shapes, sizes and colours to show that no matter where you come from or what you look like, every child should have access to all of their rights.”

Harrison said: “We chose as many gold leaves as possible to celebrate achieving the gold rights respecting school award.”

The children had a fantastic day and have lots of new ideas to share with the rest of the steering committee when they next meet.
