Year 4 have been cooking on gas in their lessons this week, here's what they've been up to...
In science the class have been investigating different states of matter, with the enquiry question of: What happens when we boil water? The group boiled cold water, room temperature water and hot water and tested how long it took to bubble, steam and reach 60 degrees. To make it a fair test, all water was measured at 500ml, they used a thermometer and had a stopwatch to time. The class discovered that heat gave the particles in the water energy. Energy makes the particles move faster and away from each other. The cold water took longer, to turn into steam, as more energy was required.
Within their two-week writing cycle, Year 4 have been working hard on creating their non-chronological report on rivers. The class have written about the lower course, middle course and the upper course of a river. Over the two weeks, the group have learned many facts and new vocabulary including: meanders, tributary, estuary, basin, source, mouth and many more. Each pupil has then carried out research on a river from around the world.
In Geography the class have studied the River Trent, looking at the source of the river and the mouth. The group then used a 6-grid Ordnance Survey map to locate human and physical geography surrounding the river.
Brilliant work Year 4, keep it up!
