Another trip to Beamish

4DG have been learning about World War One recently, starting with an outreach visit from Beamish then a trip to the open air museum.

In class, pupils learnt about Charlie Buchan, a incredibly talented footballer, whose career was halted after the war started. Pupils handled artefacts from the period as  they found out about Charlie's incredible story with Bill Elliott from the Beamish outreach team.

Another trip to Beamish

On their trip to Beamish, 4DG found out about another young boy called Joseph Ferguson who, at only 15 years old signed up to join the war effort despite being too young. They enquired with Joseph's parents, his friends, family, school teacher and his boss at the pit to try and discover Joseph's reasons for leaving to war. It was another very interesting story and the children were fascinated by the difference between then and now.

Well done everyone, class 4DG certainly know a lot about WW1 now.
