We are so proud of all of our students for their hard work at home as part of Virtual School. This week we wanted to focus on our youngest children in Year 3 who have been working hard on a range of topics.

The group were challenged to create an interesting and engaging information text about the Stone Age. Alexis focused on how jobs, food and home life might have been different back then, saying: "I like learning about the Stone Age because it is so interesting how people used to live and I want to learn more about it. I liked how the Neolithic people built homes underground so they didn't get damaged by the horrible weather!"

Phoebe's challenge was to become a historian and analyse photographic evidence of a Neolithic home in the village of Skara Brae - a settlement which dates back over 5000 years! She said: "I like learning about Stone Age because I like old things and history. I like it because they used stone and flint as tools to make nice things and their homes.”

As part of their RE lessons, Year 3 then learned about the significance of sand mandalas within the Buddhism faith. The children were hugely impressed by the detail, time and effort that goes into creating sand mandalas. The vibrant colours and intricate patterns create an amazing work of art. It can take weeks and tens of monks to complete a single mandala! Once the artwork is complete, they pray over it and sweep it away - nothing lasts forever.

Saleh created his own version of a mandala using glitter and glue. He carefully planned his design before applying the glitter, ensuring it was the best it could possibly be.

Saleh said: "I liked the colours and the glitter because it is sparkly and interesting. I put a lot of effort into it because mandalas have very detailed designs. I am proud of my work."
